The mission of the Los Santos Police Department is to protect and serve the populace of Los Santos. To that end, we investigate, reduce, and prevent crime throughout the city and make an effort to understand the community and conversely to give them the opportunity to understand us. We serve the community of Los Santos with integrity, honor, and respect and maintain only the highest possible professional, ethical, and moral standards.
RANK STRUCTURE WITHIN THE DEPARTMENT

--HIGH COMMAND TEAM
• Chief of Police / CoP
The Chief of Police (COP) is the highest-ranking officer in the Police Department. As the Chief Executive Officer of the Police Department, the COP is responsible for the planning, efficient administration, and operation of the Police Department. In this capacity, the COP directs, plans, and coordinates the enforcement of particular areas of crime, and aims to minimize crime risks across the entire city, to protect persons and property and for the preservation of the peace of the community.
• Assistant Chief of Police / ACoP
The Assistant Chief of Police (ACoP) keeps the Chief of Police informed of all operational activities on a day-to-day basis. The Assistant Chief directs the activities of either the administrative or operational side of the Police Department.

A role similar to an Assistant General Manager or Vice President of a corporation, a Commander is the second highest rank in the Police Department and reports directly to the Chief of Police. They direct the activities of a specific office consisting of several divisions of the Police Department.

--COMMAND TEAM
• Captain / Cpt
Upon completion of six months as a Lieutenant, one can advance to Captain. A Captain, resembling a District Manager of a large corporation, has a choice of roles alongside his or her general departmental administration, which may include serving as the Commanding Officer of a Division. A Captain is responsible for inspecting and overseeing the functions of the patrol officers to ensure compliance with the Department policies, procedures, regulations, and standards; supervising the administrative and support functions personnel; inspecting personnel, facilities, and tactics for safety and/or training needs; maintaining liaison with numerous municipal, governments, civic organizations, and private citizens to establish and maintain rapport to facilitate Department functions and to promote neighborhood safety and community policing programs.

- Command Training Scheme Instructor

After serving six months as a Sergeant one is eligible to promote to the next classification on the ladder upon a successful completion of the competitive Command Training Scheme, which includes an application, examination, interview and one-on-one training. Similar to a Second Level Manager for a large corporation, a Lieutenant, being part of the Command Team, takes the rolls of general departmental administration. This includes the handling of officer files and records, reinstatement and transfer requests, deliberations on departmental changes, as well as the expectation to conduct regular supervisory patrol.

-NON COMMISSIONED OFFICERS
--SERGEANT TEAM
• Sergeant III / Sgt III
After serving two months as a Sergeant II one is eligible to apply for the Command Training Scheme, including an application, examination, interview and training. If a Sergeant II is promoted to Sergeant III, they have been accepted into the Command Training Scheme and their training is now underway. All roles are the same as Sergeant II.

After serving two months as a Sergeant I one becomes eligible to be promoted to Sergeant II. A Sergeant II position is a supervisory position with specialized and administrative assignments. A Sergeant II supervises a group of Police Officers and/or civilian employees and instructs them in the performance of their assigned duties.

Much like a department manager, a Sergeant I aids a Commanding Officer in management of a specific Patrol, consisting of Police Officers. A Sergeant I is required to provide instruction to assigned staff in the operation of their required duties. The basic capacity of a Sergeant I is field supervision, but administrative and specialized assignments are also available. Some Sergeants perform initial and follow-up investigation of crimes and perform surveillance work to detect or prevent crime.

--DETECTIVE TEAM
• Detective III (CTS) / Det III (CTS)
Detective III’s who have served in a command role may apply for the LSPD Command Training Scheme. These officers rank equally to a Sergeant III and are in training for a commission as a Lieutenant.

• Detective III / Det III
After two months service as a Detective II a detective may be eligible for promotion to Detective III. These detectives are the elite investigators of the department and will more often than not hold command over one of the LSPD Detective Divisions. A Detective III in a CO role becomes the department’s lead for the investigation of specific offences. These officers are equal in rank to an LSPD Sergeant II.

After a months service as a Detective I an officer may be eligible, if they have performed exemplary investigative work, for promotion to Detective II. These officers are established and experienced detectives with a proven track record of closing cases. This officer is equal in rank to an LSPD Sergeant I and will, usually, adopt a supervisory role within Investigations and Detective divisions

After serving as a Police Officer III within a division of the Office of Criminal Intelligence an officer may take the LSPD ’s Detective Examination. If successful they are promoted to a Detective I and become full-time investigators of the LSPD under an OCI Division. They will investigate offences beyond street side inquiries and officers of this rank make up the bulk of the LSPD’s compliment of detectives. These officers are equal in rank to a Senior Lead Officer.

--PATROL OFFICERS
• Senior Lead Officer / SLO
After serving two months as a Police Officer III one is eligible to apply for the Sergeant Training Scheme, including an application, reference, interview, training and examination. If a Police Officer III is promoted to Senior Lead Officer, they have been accepted into the Sergeant Training Scheme and their training is now underway. A Senior Lead Officer is tasked with the first level of scene management and administrative work as an Assistant to the Patrol Sergeant.

• Police Officer III / POIII
After a month of being a Police Officer II, an officer becomes eligible for the promotion to Police Officer III. A Police Officer III is responsible for enforcing laws and ordinances; protecting life and property; issuing citations, making arrests, preparing reports; meeting with community members; working as a team member; and providing information to the public and departmental units.

• Police Officer II / POII
A Police Officer II performs basic duties such as: responding to the scene of a crime or an accident; interviewing suspects and witnesses; writing crime reports; responding to radio calls; monitoring any suspicious activity of ongoing crimes; coordinating vehicular traffic; visiting open businesses such as banks, markets, department stores, and service stations to establish a rapport with owners; booking suspects and evidence and transporting them to the appropriate Police Department facility; responding to citizens' and visitors' questions; and preparing Daily Field Activity Reports.

The first step in the career ladder with the Los Santos Police Department (LSPD) is Police Officer I. It is the entry-level classification given to all LSPD officers upon entering the Police Academy. For two weeks in the Police Academy, officers are taught criminal law, human relations, and report writing. In addition, they are trained in tactics, firearms, and driving. Physical fitness and self-defense play a big part in Academy training. A Police Officer I will automatically advance to Police Officer II upon successful completion of his/her 28-day probationary period.
